Boston...

I just listened to my song Fallout on XMU's "RADAR REPORT". Funny how it sounds so much cooler being announced on the radio =)

But, moving on. I just got back from a trip to the east coast. While I was over there, I got to visit friends in Boston and was a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding up in New Hampshire. It was such a beautiful, chill wedding right outside this cabin the bride's mom built in the middle of these woods. After the ceremony, we all made a bonfire and sat around drinking wine and eating s'mores. Now, how many weddings have you been to where you got to do that!?!?

My friends also took me to Samuel Adam's Brewery downtown Boston, and this thing called Water Fire in Providence. They set up bonfires in the middle of these canals (see pics below) and have live music and gondola rides. I must say, people in New England really know how to live it up!

Well, have to get back to prepping for my west coast tour. I start it in a week from today! Sooo stoked!

Recording "Black & White in Color"

With my EP coming out next month, I got to thinking about how my first professional recording process had been. Honestly, Recording my debut EP couldn’t have been more surreal. It was as if I were Alice and had jumped down the rabbit hole; quite literally. We recorded it in Silverlake at Mad Hatter Studios, which is themed after “Alice in Wonderland”, in the main studio which is titled “Alice’s Wonderland”. For ten days straight, my dad and I were there recording and mixing pretty much 24/7, leaving the studio most days at around 6am! I was surrounded by the most incredible musicians and crew, got to work with my brilliant dad, and even had my friends come and clap on one of my songs, titled “Ferris Wheel”. The whole process couldn’t have been more fun or have gone more smoothly. It was a dream come true!

And the album, titled “Black and White in Color”, turned out exactly how I had envisioned it! It’s unconventionally mainstream. My dad knows me extremely well, so he was able to arrange and produce it in a way that brought out my best characteristics, and then twisted them in this cool way that’s different than anything out there. Yet, I think people will still be able to relate to it.

I hope everyone reading this gets a chance to buy and listen to what us musicians created in those two weeks over at Mad Hatter Studios!

The Maestro

All I have to say is that I'M SO SO SOOO PROUD OF MY DADDY...the Maestro of the Hollywood Bowl this coming Sat!

Why music?

Last night after the Faith Hill PBS Xmas special wrapped, I was in Faith's dressing room. My parents and I were chatting with her and Tim. We were mainly talking about music and how lucky we are to be doing what we love; music.

It got me thinking. What is it that I love so much about music? Yes, it's exciting to perform for hundreds of thousands of people. Yes it's fun to travel around the globe. But beyond all of that, what I love about music is the fact that it enables people to feel something. Whether the song is a heart throbbing love song or just a fun "dance around" song, music hits people emotionally. I think music is one of the finest wavelengths. It can pierce through anything.

I remember listening to one of Tchaikovsky's violin concertos for the first time. All these emotions hit me at once. My eyes swelled with tears, I felt elated, powerful, like I could accomplish anything! And to know that I potentially have the capability to impress similar feelings in others with my music keeps me looking forward to each day.

Christmas in September

"O come all ye faithful".......wait, xmas in September!? Ahhhhhh!!! It's only September and I'm already singing Xmas songs!!! I'm here in Chicago with my dad. He arranged and is conducting a Faith Hill xmas PBS special. Therefore, for the next four days it's xmas xmas and more xmas for Alyssa! =) However, the arrangements of these songs are absolutely gorgeous and Faith has such a beautiful voice! Having said this, I seriously can't wait to get back to sunny California so I can enjoy the end of the summer.
That's all for now.
talk on ya laters!

Hi from NYC!

I just found out that my "Falling from Mars" music video just got into the Tucson Film & Music Festival and the Vacant Era Film Festival!

The music video will be screening at the historic Rialto theatre as part of the Tucson Film & Music Festival and will also be screening the historic Sooner Theatre in Norman, Oklahoma as part of the Vacant Era Film Festival. If you will be in either of these cities in early to mid-October, please let me know so I can send you the info!

Well, seeing that it's 3:09AM east coast time, I should probably get to sleep. But, hell, this is NY...the city that never sleeps, right? haha. Guess I had a little too much fun tonight. But I have pilates tmrw am so best be gettin' to bed now.
