SXSW!
Hi all y'all!
I just got home after 5 music filled days in Austin, Texas. Wooow was it fun! How could it not be with over 3,000 bands performing in 5 days. And we're talking musicians from all over the world; England, Dublin, Australia, you name it. I got to see all sorts of bands, both new and old, including Devo, this crazy screamo Britt band Bring me the Horizon( fucking insane!!! check 'em out!!), the NY Dolls, the Silversun Pickups, etc. and lots of new bands I'd never heard of. Musicians were playing on street corners, rooftops, elevators, you name it!
I also got to play a couple showcases. Played one at the famous Continental Club on Congress Ave, and then another at the live.create.lounge. I found a review that was written earlier today from my showcase last night. Check it out at:
http://www.austin360.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/music/entries/2009/03/22/sxsw_review_alyssa_suede.html
Anyhoo, it's bedtime for me. Glad to be back in LA, and I'm planning on playing more gigs out here and writing new stuff! woot woot! Also, I just recently recorded some new demos of new tunes. Will be rotating them onto my myspace page. So check 'em out! www.myspace.com/alyssasuede

My Grammy's experience
Hey everyone
Hope you had a great weekend. I know I did! I was lucky enough to spend my Sunday at the Staple Center for the Grammys! Actually it was pretty tiring. I spent a long 9 hrs at the Staple Center, helping out at the sound check the morning of the show, and then staying into the evening for the actual event.
I guess the highlights for me were as follows:
-Watching Radiohead perform with the USC marching band.
-Paul McCartney talking with me backstage and showing me a "red nose day" magic trick. He explained afterwards that it was "red nose day" in England that day. So, he wore this Beatles Tshirt that had all of them wearing red noses. And he had this light up red nose he made disappear, reappear, etc. Good times.
-Having Thome and Johnny "stocking us" backstage....haha.
-Watching Al Green, Justin Timberlake and Keith Urban practice their song together. Funny, the Grammys called Al Green around noon the day of the Grammys. He was in the bathtub when he got the call begging him to come and perform in place of Rhianna and Chris Brown!
Truthfully though, I think the Grammys have gotten too long and too commercial since being at the Staple Center. I enjoyed it much more when they were held at the Shrine.
Here's a pic of Radiohead, the USC marching band and my dad (prod/arranger) backstage after their performance at Grammys.
Talk on ya laters!

Room 5 and other thoughts ...
Hey everyone!
I just wanted to thank everyone for coming to my show this past Sat night at Room 5! I personally had a blast up there, and all y'alls support definitely helped make the night special! =) and the encore was quite a surprise...haha
A couple questions. I'm thinking of having a residency at Room 5 on La Brea Sat. nights at 10pm. Do you think this is a good time to play each week? Oh, and did you like all the candles I put around the stage/on the piano? I thought it added a lil something...made a feel more intimate and cozy... =)
On another note, the Grammies are this Sunday!!! My father is going to be doing a special performance with Radiohead (it's absolutely AMAAAZING!!!!!!) so you won't want to miss it!!! If you can't watch the entire show, at least TiVo the award show so that you can see Radiohead's performance. Okay, that's all I'm going to say on that so I don't accidentally give anything away.
Other than that, I'm about to go take a spinning class (2nd one ever....they kick your ass!!!).
Hope you're all having an amazing week so far and talk soon!
xoxo

PS. Doing a quick survey. What tv shows do you watch/like? I'm trying to think with what shows my music might work well on.
YOU ALL ROCK!!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT! Couldn't do it without you guys!!!

SUNDANCE!!
I just got back from Park City. I was there for the Sundance Film Festival and, let me tell you, it was a blast!!!!
It was a week filled with movies, music, parties and free clothes! Fred Segal put on this party where you, literally, walked into a room packed with everything from jeans to shoes to jackets, were handed a bag and got to go around the room taking what you wanted of the clothes and putting it into your bag. It was like heaven.
I also saw Damien Rice perform at the ASCAP Cafe. I'd never seen him perform before. The entire room was completely silent the entire time. There's something about his performance that is just so real and it hit me on a whole different level; created quite an emotional impact.
I got perform an a couple different Sundance parties with artists such as David Archuleta and BT. This was actually written in one of the magazines:
The Festival opened with mutiple 3-D gala events in Park City on January 16th - 18th with performances by David Archuleta, Alyssa Suede and Paul Oakenfold, who entertained attendees with the 3-D Dance Floor Exhibit presented by Action 3-D and The Dream Factory.
The one thing I regret was not going skiing. =( Guess I'll have to go back next year!

A little unknown ...
Woa! Sorry it's been so long since I've written a new blog!!
To make it up to you, I thought I'd share some inside information about myself. I personally like to know different random facts about various musicians/actors that I like. Therefore, I thought I'd answer some random questions for my fans, future-fans and friends.
Name: Legally, it's Alyssa Ashton Campbell, but my music name is Alyssa Suede. Suede, being my given middle name. I changed it to Ashton when I turned 18.....don't ask why...hehe
Favorite song: Right now, it's "A Day in the Life" by The Beatles. If you haven't heard it, GO LISTEN TO IT NOW! It's not on iTunes, but you can hear it on YouTube.
Favorite color: Pink and Blue. I would say black, but is that really considered a color?
Favorite movie this year: Slumdog Millionaire. It was amaaazing and I hope it wins Best Pic at the Oscars this year!
Hmmm what else....I've been playing music for 2 years now. Before that I was a competitive figure skater. I trained with Sasha Cohen and Michelle Kwan up in Lake Arrowhead. I quit at the age of 14 shortly after breaking my tail bone. Definitely don't recommend breaking your tail bone. It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced!
Alrighty, think I've taken up enough of your time. Hope you feel like you "know me" a bit better. I'd love to keep in touch.
Hope you enjoy my tunes and music video (which I skate in!). If you LOVE it, pleeeease click on the "Demand it" widget on my MySpace page and request that I play in your area. This will help me figure out where to plan my future tours. =) yaaay!

Happy Halloween!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
As you know, I departed on my Cali tour a few days ago. Last night I played a Hollow's Eve show in Sac. Good times. I got to share the stage with some pretty sweet rock bands (yes, I was the acoustic relief of the night) including Sac's local band Lynus.
Let me just say that Sacramento is awesome! Went to Old Town Sacramento earlier in the day. Took some sweet pics by the old train tracks, went on a river boat, and bought a miniature harmonica. Oh, and found the greatest coffee shop yet. It's called "Temple". So, if you're ever in Sac, make sure to go downtown and hit up the "Temple" coffee house.
That's all for now
xoxo
